The Great Wall of Words

How to Play The Great Wall of Words

Game Overview

Create words by linking adjacent letter squares together. You will receive points for every letter in the word, and for the overall length of the word.

The number of dots on a letter tile shows how much they are worth, the more dots, the higher the value.

Words longer than 5 letters will be awarded a multiplier, the longer the word, the larger the multiplier.

Tip: Find a word of 8 letters to get a whopping 10,000 point bonus!

Each round you play will have a target you have to reach, this will very depending on the game type, but you will always reach it by finding words.

Controls

Left-Click each letter tile in turn, once the word is ready you can either hit the 'submit' button, press the middle mouse button, or press the space bar.

Tip: Using the middle mouse button is faster.

Bonus Tiles

Tip: Try combining bonus tiles together to get massive scores!
Double Word Score
Triple Word Score
Quadruple Word Score!
Wildcard tiles can be used as any letter you want, however they will give you no points.

Bomb Tiles

Bomb tiles will explode and give you the points from all the surrounding letter tiles which they destroy.

To detonate a bomb, you must create 3 words using letter tiles next to them. You will know when a bomb is about to explode as their fuse will begin to burn.

Tip: Use bombs to get rid of hard letters, like Q's and Z's

Don't run out of time!

Complete each round before the timer burns down, if it does then it's game over!

Different Game types

There are 4 different game types in The Great Wall of Words:

Score Target
- At the beginning of the round you are given a target score, you must accumulate enough points to reach that target by matching as many words as you can in the time given.

Tip: Always go for longer words, an 8 letter word can give you a quick win.

Time Attack
- Instead of adding to your score, points are converted into seconds and added onto your timer. You can only win by getting enough extra seconds to fill the timer bar right up.

Conquest
- Any letter tiles which are used in a word become 'captured'. Captured tiles are shaded in red. The only way of winning a conquest round is to capture enough tiles on the board, this is shown as a target percentage.

Tip: You can use tiles you have already captured to form words.

Word Search
- At the beginning of the round, you are given a target word to find. You must do whatever it takes to create that word on the grid, this may mean clearing lots of other words in order to get the letters you want in the correct place.

Tip: Make good use of wildcard tiles in Word Search mode.
